How long does a GRP roof or gutter last?
A GRP Roof or gutter lining will remain virtually maintenance free for a period in excess of twenty five years. GRP roofs that have been protected from UV degradation by chippings on the gel surface should remain serviceable for considerably longer. After twenty five years, a new gel surface can be applied to roofs and gutter linings extending life expectancy even further (subject to specific site conditions).
Unprotected GRP rooflights are still in use forty years after installation.

What does it cost?
Compared to traditional roofing materials (felt and bitumen based products) fibreglass materials are more expensive although this additional cost is offset by vastly increased life expectancy. In many cases GRP is a cheaper alternative to traditional materials due to faster installation and the reduced need to strip out existing materials, roof sheets/tiles or glazing bars etc. The price per roof or gutter lining is often dictated by site conditions, please contact us for further information and budget pricing.

Is the work guaranteed?
All of our work is guaranteed. Please contact us for specific information and insurances etc.

Can I walk on it?
A GRP roof or gutter lining is perfectly safe to walk on, and is far less likely to be damaged compared to traditional roofing materials. Pedestrian access can be easily incorporated in roofs or gutter linings and specific specifications can be used for roof gardens or balcony/patio areas etc.

Can GRP be used on pitched roofs?
Fibreglass has for many years been used successfully on pitched roofs as well as flat areas. Rooflights and Velux installations are easily incorporated into the new GRP roof.

Does my existing roof have to be re-decked?
As the GRP roof systems we use lend themselves to over-roofing (providing the existing deck is in serviceable condition) it is not always necessary to strip the existing roof covering and decking. An initial site survey should establish whether the existing deck should be replaced as per building regulations.

Can my GRP roof be used as a roof garden?
Fibreglass roofs are much stronger than traditional felt roofs , and so make excellent roof gardens, balconies and patio areas.

What colours/surface finishes are available?
Our standard specification GRP roofs are finished with white FLEX-TRIM edges and an application of clean 6mm lime stone chippings embedded into the white gel-coat surface. Most aggregates could be used instead of lime stone, or in certain circumstances, the surface can be finished with the gel-coat surface left bare, or a non-slip surface applied. Most colours can be supplied, please contact us for specific information.

Can a GRP roof incorporate insulation?
Insulation can easily be incorporated beneath the GRP roof structure (in accordance with warm roof/cold roof situations).

Does a GRP roof require venting?
We create a breathing roof system which allows moisture vapour to vent at the edges without compromising the roof's overall integrity. Larger areas may require the inclusion of roof vents that are easily incorporated into the roof structure.

Can a GRP roof incorporate flashings/soakers or a Velux?
GRP roofs are ideal for the incorporation of flashing details and specific soakers for Velux units or rooflights etc.
Independent GRP soakers or flashing units can also be manufactured on site for use on a variety of roof surfaces (tile, fibre cement sheet, slate etc.) although we still advocate the use of a lead flashing to the perimeter of our GRP roofs to aid in the transmission of moisture vapour.

Can a GRP roof incorporate a gutter detail?
A gutter detail is easily incorporated into the roof structure, as are most shapes and roof pitches.

Do we supply GRP Materials/FLEX-BASE/FLEX-TRIM?
Please contact GRP Refurbishment Systems for information on material supplies.

Can we refurbish GRP rooflights?
As an alternative to replacement, old GRP rooflights can be repaired and have a new gel-coat surface applied in-situ.

Are COSHH assessments required?
COSHH assessments are always completed before any work commences, as required by health and safety regulations. COSHH assessments and material data sheets are always available on site.

What types of gutter are suitable for a GRP lining?
Most commercial and domestic gutters are suitable for a GRP lining, although it may not be practical for some rainwater goods. Please contact us for specific enquiries.

Is GRP suitable for a fragile/rusting gutter?
The GRP gutter linings we manufacture are reinforced at the base with a special synthetic core material sandwiched between further layers of glassfibre, producing a structure of great strength (but lightweight). As an independent lining (as long as the gutter supports are still serviceable) GRP can safely be installed over (or within) a fragile structure.

Is a GRP gutter lining suitable for a house?
Our GRP gutter linings are suitable for domestic and industrial applications.

Our existing gutter is stepped, is GRP suitable?
A stepped gutter (usually the result of a lead gutter installation) is perfectly suited for a GRP gutter lining. The seamless construction of a GRP gutter lining can accommodate most shapes, sizes and protrusions through the gutter itself.

Does the existing gutter have to be stripped out?
Most gutters can be lined in-situ without the need of stripping out roof sheets, glazing bars and flashings etc. In some cases e.g. when a timber gutter has rotted, the gutter structure may have to be rebuilt, and then lined with GRP.

Can a GRP gutter lining incorporate insulation?
Insulation can easily be incorporated beneath the GRP gutter structure (in accordance with warm roof/cold roof situations) as long as the volume of the gutter has been increased to compensate.

Is a GRP gutter lining suitable for asbestos cement gutters?
GRP gutter linings are especially suitable for installation to asbestos cement gutters, as the installation process virtually eliminates disturbing the original gutter structure or adjacent asbestos cement roof sheets and closure panels.

Can a GRP gutter lining increase the capacity of my gutter?
We always try to maximize the volume of a GRP gutter lining by utilizing the available space beneath the roof covering. As the lining sheet is preformed, we are able to slide this sheet (FLEX-BASE) behind any closure panels (splash plates) or up to the first batten on a tiled roof, thus increasing the gutter volume considerably.

Can additional outlets or weir ends be created?
We create an independent gutter lining (a gutter within a gutter) and so the process of creating weir ends or additional outlets is very straightforward.

Can any shape gutter be lined with GRP?
A GRP gutter lining can accommodate most shapes, sizes and protrusions through the gutter itself.

Will a GRP gutter lining cope with expansion and contraction?
Yes. We create an independent gutter lining (a gutter within a gutter) and always take thermal and structural movement into account during installation.
